Secretariat

The Secretariat of the Abuja MoU is headed by a Secretary General and hosted by the Government of Federal Republic of Nigeria. By the Headquarters Agreement between the Abuja MoU and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria signed in 2005, the Abuja MoU Secretariat is sited in Lagos, Nigeria.

One of the major tasks of the Secretariat is to provide support and guidance to member States on the implementation of the harmonized Port State Control Inspection practices and procedures, collating inspection reports, organising the Bureau Meetings, Ministerial Conference, Committee Meetings, Intersessional Management Working Group Meetings, and other relevant meetings from time to time.

The Secretariat also facilitates information exchange and sharing, training and workshops; and preparation of annual reports to mention a few.
