Abuja MoU officially launched the Mentor/ Mentee scheme between Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA)
The aim of the scheme is to provide technical support through on-the-job training, and cross-pollination of ideas for the overall improvement of PSC inspections in the region, towards eliminating substandard ships, ensuring safety, humane treatment and employment of seafarers, protecting our marine environment and related maritime assets. It is expected to be mutually beneficial relationship for the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA). Not only will it help both organization build ties and offer networking opportunities for the inspectors, it is also a learning and development opportunity for both entities.
In attendance among other delegates from Abuja MoU, NIMASA and SLMA are Capt. Sunday Umoren, Secretary General, Abuja MoU; Rt. Hon. Engr. Victor Onyekachi Ochei, Executive Director, Maritime Labour & Cabotage Services, NIMASA representing the Director General of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh and the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA), Paul Sobba Massaquoi respectively.
Five (5) Port State Control Officers (PSCOs) from Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) are currently in Nigeria with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for a (two) 2 weeks on-the Job Training.
